Paani Foundation establishes training programme to make Maharasthra drought-free

Each year, drought afflicts thousands of villages in Maharashtra. In 2015, the situation was so grim that the government had to provide drinking water through the railways to several villages.

In early 2016, a not-for-profit company called Paani Foundation was set up by Bollywood actor Aamir Khan and his wife Kiran Rao to work towards creating a drought-free Maharashtra. The Foundation is run by the core team members of the Satyamev Jayate TV show, according to a statement issued by the Foundation. The key difference in Paani Foundation’s approach is its belief that the only solution for the existing water crisis is a people’s movement. If people are convinced, motivated and trained, the Foundation believes that they themselves will have the power and ability to solve their water problems.

With this in mind, Paani Foundation has designed a training programme to teachpeople the science of watershed management and to develop their leadership skills. To bring people together and encourage them to apply their learnings from the training, the Foundation also organises the Satyamev Jayate Water Cup competition annually. The Satyamev Jayate Water Cup is essentially a competition between villages to see which village can do the maximum water conservation work in the period of the competition. Every village in the selected talukas is eligible to participate.

In 2016, the 3 talukas of Ambajogai, Koregaon and Warudwere chosen to participate in the competition.116 villages from these talukas took part, and through mass voluntary work or Shramdan done in the searing heat of April and May, an annual water storage capacity of 1,368 crore litres of water was created in just 45 days. Velu village from Koregaon taluka in Satara district received the first prize of Rs. 50 lakhs from the Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri. Devendra Fadnavis at a grand awards ceremony held in Mumbai last year. A documentary film titled ‘The Battle against Drought’ chronicles the journey of Water Cup 2016 and was released at the awards ceremony. The information of the journey of Paani foundation & Satyamev Jayate Water Cup was shared by Mr. Satyajit Bhatkal, CEO, Paani Foundation at a press conference held in Pune. Dr. Avinash Pol, Project Director, Paani Foundation and Kiran Rao, Founder, Paani Foundation were also present on the occasion.

The success of the pilot edition of the Satyamev Jayate Water Cup 2016 encouraged the Paani Foundation team to scale up its efforts from 3 to 30 talukas in 2017. Over 1,300 villages took part in the competition this year and between 8th April and 22nd May lakh of villagers came together to do outstanding water conservation work. To pay tribute to these Water Heroes and honour the winners, Paani Foundation will present the Satyamev Jayate

Water Cup 2017 Awards on Sunday, 6thAugust at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium, Balewadi, Pune.

Giving the signal for the ‘Datsun Drive-On’ to start, Mr. Sicard said, “India was the first market to begin selling Datsun products after it was announced in 2012 that the brand would be reintroduced, and we are proud to celebrate this milestone in Datsun’s history in India.

Since then Datsun has had an encouraging year both in India – where our happy customers are a testimony to this – as well as other world markets. ‘Datsun Drive-On’ is our way of showing our strong commitment towards our customers. Conceived with the vision of “mobility for all”, the Datsun GO was made available to Indian customers in early April last year and Datsun GO+ was added to the stable earlier this year in January. Datsun vehicles are available across 176 Nissan-Datsun Dealerships and standalone outlets in India.

Datsun originated in Japan as DAT-GO (the DAT-car) almost a century ago in 1914. The word DAT means ‘lightning-fast’ in Japanese but is also a reference to the first letters of family names of the three financiers who supported the business at the time: Den, Aoyama and Takeuchi. Using the same logic, it was promoted as Durable, Attractive and Trustworthy, or DAT for short. In 1933, Nissan’s founding father Yoshisuke Aikawa took over the business with a vision of “mobility for all”. The introduction of a light-weight, economical yet resilient car to meet the aspirations of young Japanese people in the early 1930s was named the ‘son of DAT’ – Datson – which later changed to Datsun. Local engineering and mass-production made the founder’s dream a reality.

Golden Kela Awards 2015: Arjun Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha bestowed with worst actors awards

At the Golden Keala Awards 2015, Arjun Kapoor was bestowed with the worst actor (male) award for Gunday & Everything Else, while Sonakshi Sinha won the Worst Actor (Female) award hands down for Action Jackson Holiday. This ws the hat-trick for her as she sweeps the award for the back to back third time. The seventh edition of the Anjnual Golden Kela Awards ceremony was held at India Habitat Centre on March 14, where it honoured the worst in Indian cinema in a lighter vein.

Jatin Varma, Founder, Golden Kela Awards said: “We obviously do not wish to hurt any sentiments with these awards! We only hope that those who receive the awards take it in jest and look forward to creating a better experience for their fans!”

Yo Yo Honey Singh was chosen for the Bas Kijiye Bahut Ho Gaya Award while his composition Blue Hai Paani Paani from Yaariyan got the Most Irritating Song award. This just goes on to show that today’s audiences need a teeny bit of substance when it comes to music!

Tiger Shroff failed to impress with Heropanti and was accredited with the Worst Debut Award, while Bang Bang! was chosen for the RGV Ki Aag Award for Most Pointless Remake/Sequel. The Ice Cream song from Xpose got Shabbir Ahmed the Most Atrocious Lyrics award, and the Golden Kela team is still scratching their heads over the existence of the song in the movie.

Humshakals, seems it was too much for the audience to digest. It was a disaster three times over with Saif Ali Khan, Ram Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh dressing up as what they call ‘women’, all through the movie. The kids still have nightmares and so it had to be presented with the Worst Film award.

The Baawra Ho Gaya Hai Ke Award went to Abhishek Sharma for The Shaukeens, for his selection of remaking a movie without knowing where & how to go about it and ending up making a complete mess of things. On winning this Award, Abhishek Sharma, Director, The Shaukeens, quoted, “I am extremely excited to win the Baanwra Award, as Golden Kela Awards are the only awards worth winning in this industry that celebrates mediocrity like no other film industry in the world. Proud to be one of the baanwras of bollywood! ”

Sonam Kapoor won the Why Are You Still Trying Award, it conveys that she should stop torturing audiences with her plastic presence on movies and start focussing on something she is good at, like Fashion! Also, in the Special Awards Category, PK won the Fanaa Award for Most Pointlessly Controversial Film.

Priyanka Chopra, though did a commendable job as Mary Kom, she couldn’t quite nail the accent. The Dara Singh Award for the Worst Accent, thus, had her name written all over it. We did, however, see some creativity in the horror movie domain, with 6 – 5 = 2, which was chosen for the Khooni Dracula Award for Most Creatively Named Horror Film. Who could have guessed, right?

Winners of the 7th Annual Golden Kela Awards Are:
