Motor sport is part of the Audi DNA and Audi’s Le Mans prototypes are front-runners in terms of sporting performance as well as technology. The Audi R18 e-tron quattro, the winner of the 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans, follows a concept all of its own.  The hybrid drive of the LMP1 prototype is designed for motor sport conditions – the most intensive test environment for production development. Audi was the first Le Mans participant to win with a hybrid drive system and made motorsport history with the first victory of the Audi R18 e-tron quattro in 2012.
Delighting the motor sport lovers since 1923, the 24 Heures du Mans is now a part of the World Endurance Championship (WEC). The cars have to run 24 hours on the circuit without sustaining any mechanical failure and managing the car’s fuel, brakes and tyres. Also known as the Grand Prix of Endurance Sports, its 2014 chapter will be held on June 14-15 at the Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans, France.
Tom Kristensen, Eight times winner of Le Mans says: “Le Mans is such a great race because you can never do anything alone. You have to work as a team member. And being a team member makes you a better person”.
Allan McNish, Audi driver who has won twice at Le Mans has this to say: “Le Mans is a race of 24 hours. All day, all night. With either of aquaplaning on the straights, or 35 degrees of sunshine. And it only stops when the checkered flag drops on Sunday afternoon in 15 hours. A race, a day, a season, a winner”.
