Swami Vivekananda 150 Women Convention to be held on January 23, 2014 in Chennai

In what could be termed as the first of its kind, over 1,000 women professionals will converge at the Swami Vivekananda 150 Women Convention, to be held at Narada Gana Sabha in Chennai on January 23, 2014.

According to a statement, The thematic convention titled: ‘Indian Woman as the Guide for the World at Crossroads’ will have woman achievers  such as Rajashree Birla (Director, Aditya Birla Group), Dr Padma Subrahmanyam (Renowned Danseuse and Scholar) and Prof Prema Pandurag (Cultural Expert) deliberate on the multidimensional perspectives of Indian Women. Doctors, Lawyers, Chartered Accountants, Corporates, Artists, Teachers and women from various other walks of life are likely to to take part in this unique convention that falls on Swami Vivekananda’s 151st Jayanthi.
Dr Padma Subrahmanyam, who is also the Organising Chairperson of the event said: “This convention is a humble tribute to the original feminist Swami Vivekananda who saw in women the strongest source of a country’s success. The convention provides a platform for an alternate and indigenous thought on the role of Indian woman not only for India’s success but also for the world to emulate”.
Dr V Shanta, Head, Adayar Cancer Institute and the  Chairperson of the Reception Committee of the convention said: “The presence of women achievers and successful women professionals for this exclusive event is a springboard for reinforcing Swami Vivekananda’s visionary foresight on the role of Indian women”.
The organising vice-chairpersons include eminent women professionals like Akhila Srinivasan, Managing Director, Shriram Life Insurance Company Ltd; Hema Gopal, Vice President, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd; Dr Kamala Selvaraj renowned gynaecologist; Dr Preetha Reddy, Apollo Hospitals; Vanitha Mohan (PRICOL) and Kumari Nivedita.
Dr Subrahmanyam further added: “This historic convention at Chennai will be the first of the Swami Vivekananda 150 Women’s Initiative (SV150WI) and will transform itself into a nation-wide movement to create awareness on the progressive role of Indian women in the progress of India and the entire world. We are planning to establish SV150WI chapters across the nation and train women folk to become subject matter experts in this new paradigm that is already embedded in India’s social DNA for centuries together. The SV150WI will provide successful Indian models for the world to consume, reversing the conventional trend of India being a consumer of western models of modernity”. ‘The convention will start at 4:30 PM on January 23, 2014 and the joint declaration at the end of it will set the agenda rolling’ S Rajalakshmi, Secretary of SV150WI added.
