The German luxury car maker, Mercedes-Benz has ushered in the New Year with much style, opulence and automotive magnificence. After quite a successful ‘Year of Offensive’, Mercedes-Benz India now making a transition into the ‘Year of Excellence’ with the introduction of the ultimate luxury car – the all-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The launch of S-Class at the Leela Palace Hotel, Chennai is in line with the German auto makers’ strategy to tap the burgeoning market for high-end premium cars in South India. With well over 13 touch points located across the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, Mercedes-Benz India in 2013, logged 38 percent year on year growth in these happening markets in comparison with the year ago period.
Mercedes-Benz S-Class, with its unique and distinctive looks, styling and uber luxurious interiors has resonated the global success as the first allocation of 125 cars for India are sold out like hot cakes before the official launch. Bookings are now open from April this year delivery of the premium car. Featuring a 4.6 litre V8 engine, mated to a 7G-Tronic Plus seven speed automatic transmission, this poetry in motion churns out 338 kw at 5250-5500rpm and 700 nm torque at 18000-3500 rpm and accelerates from 0-100 in just 4.8 seconds with a top speed of 250 kmph, according to a company statement.

The new car brings together luxury, design and technology that meet the highest standards of perfection, surpassing expectations for a vehicle of this class”.
Furthermore, the official said that the company had significantly ramped up its presence in South India owing to the burgeoning demand in luxury car segment. ‘Our unique range of products, services and brand experience initiatives including StarDrive Experience has been well received. Therefore, we are bullish about our growth in this vital market for luxury cars”, he added.
The exteriors of this car are sure to grab the eyeballs with its arched roofline with flowing contours, the dropping lines that descend elegantly from the front to rear and the large grille with four louvers clubbed with the three dimensional design of the chrome trip and grille interior. The attractive design of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is further enhanced by the LED high performance sharply contoured headlamps and the exquisite panoramic sunroof. The S-Class has a drag co-efficient of 0.24, one of the lowest for a luxury car of this genre.
The interiors of the car are sure to wrap one in luxury fit for a king – seven colour ambient lighting with a choice of five dimming options, two high resolution TFT screens and a multi function two spoke steering wheel that offers all controls at one go. The dash board is a combination of contemporary design featuring sleek horizontal lines, which along with the design wood myrtle in a shiny brown sanburst trim imparts the lush touch. Not just that, the high performance Burmester 3D surround system with 24 sseakers, nine tweeters integrated in the instrument panels, doors, parcel shelf and roof lining along with the 24 channel amplifier tith an output of 1540 watts, is a pure listening pleasure.
The continuous business console in the rear cabin can also transform the car into an office on wheels with two individual seats and folding tables that make for a comfortable travelling and working environment. For added comfort, there are two temperature controlled cup holders with dimmed interior illumination, stowage compartment with a 12V socket, two USB ports and aux-in socket in conjunction with individual entertainment systems in the year. The Command online NTG5 in the S-Class comes with animated menus and 3D effects, besides an HDD to store music and videos, WLAN hotspot, SMS display, phone contact reader, radio and navigation.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class car offers packed hotstone massage function with six different programmes ranging from relaxing and stimulating to an energising effect. Occupants can choose from two intensities – low and high and the seat backrest comes with a massage mat with 14 air chambers which can be inflated or deflated via responding solenoid valves, developing a wave-lake massage effect The massage function can be operated through remote with durations ranging from 12-15 minutes.
The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class features an Airmatic suspension which ensures smooth ride quality. The 360 degree surround view camera along with night view assist supports the driver with improved visibility assuring minimum blind spots and intimating the driver of any obstacles ahead. Active park assist automatically steers the vehicle into parking spaces, releiveing the driver of steering and brakng effort. ESP with eight airbags and PRE Safe assure driver and passenger safety, while the brake assist offers better control during emergency braking. The S-Class also comes with adaptive brakes with hold function, ASR and Hill Start Assist. The key-less-GO package with hands free access allows hands off, fully automatic opening and closing of the boot lid. The S-Class also comes with a Chauffeur package, which creates up to 77 mm more rear leg room on the front passenger side with electrically extending footrest and has easy adjust luxury head restraints for driver and passenger.
