Kaspersky 7 Volcanoes seventh summit concludes

Kaspersky Lab announced the successful completion of the ‘Kaspersky 7 Volcanoes Expedition’. Russian mountaineer Olga Rumyantseva recently finished her seventh volcano climb, scaling the summit of Ojos del Salado in Chile. The last challenge wasn’t easy but Olga bravely overcame all the troubles on her way to the top of the world’s highest active volcano, according to a company statement.

Olga Rumyantseva became the first Russian – and only the third person ever – to complete a solo climb of each of the Volcanic Seven Summits: the highest volcanoes on each of the seven continents. Moreover, she set a world record, becoming the first person to complete the challenge in less than one year.
Backed by Kaspersky Lab, Olga began her quest on January 11, 2013 and has solo-climbed Mount Sidley (Antarctica), Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), Damavand (Iran), Mount Giluwe (Papua New Guinea), Elbrus (Russia), Pico de Orizaba (Mexico) and finished with Ojos del Salado (Chile) on December 9, 2013. Ojos del Salado is a massive stratovolcano in the Chilean Andes. At 6,893 m above sea level it is the highest active volcano in the world, the second highest mountain in the Western and Southern Hemispheres, and the highest in Chile.
Commenting on her great achievement, Rumyantseva said: “I was expecting this latter mission to be the hardest one mostly due to inclement weather conditions. But it turned out that my biggest problem was a car accident on my way to Ojos del Salado’s base camp. Despite all this I managed to successfully recover and quickly complete the climb. Overall it has been a very challenging year so now I’m extremely happy and proud of myself. I would like to thank Kaspersky Lab for all its support and inspiration during the year-long expedition. This is definitely a shared achievement”.

Kaspersky Lab is proud to play its part in this challenge as well as other sporting events and geographic expeditions all over the world. These projects reflect the company’s core values: a determination to overcome boundaries and relentlessly pursue new goals.
The Kaspersky 7 Volcanoes Expedition sees mountaineer Olga Rumyantseva become the first woman to solo-ascend the Volcanic Seven Summits, the highest volcanoes on each continent, within one year. Supported by Kaspersky Lab, Olga will solo-climb Mt. Sidley (Antarctica), Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), Mt. Giluwe (Papua New Guinea), Damavand (Iran), Elbrus (Russia), Pico de Orizaba (Mexico) and Ojos del Salado (Chile). Summiting these volcanoes is considered one of the toughest mountaineering challenges in the world, and the fact that Olga will be the first in history to ascend them alone in less than 12 months merely adds to the challenge.
The Kaspersky 7 Volcanoes Expedition is a new step for the brand in collaborating with explorers. At the beginning of 2012, with the support of Kaspersky Lab, renowned British explorer Felicity Aston became the first woman in history to cross Antarctica alone, having set a new world record. Another expedition dating back to November 2009 saw the company sponsor the Kaspersky Commonwealth Antarctic Expedition. This project brought together women from Brunei, Cyprus, Ghana, India, Jamaica, New Zealand, Singapore and the United Kingdom who skied more than 900 km from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole to mark the 60th anniversary of the Commonwealth.
Rumyantseva was born in the Russia city of Tver. From an early age she had a keen interest in mountain trekking and mountaineering. What started out as a hobby scaling peaks in the Caucasus, the Khibiny Mountains and mountains in Central Asia later turned into a lifestyle. She received a first grade in mountaineering and became director of the Moscow State University alpinism club. In 2008 Olga started her dream job when she became a mountaineering guide. Throughout her climbing career she has ascended numerous mountains on every continent.
