Nissan Global Foundation gives away annual scholarships to two IIT-M students in Chennai

Nissan and Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) awarded two IIT-M students with the fourth annual Nissan Global Foundation Scholarship, according to a company release.

Suraj Vallamkonda and Sripriya Kalidoss, both from Mechanical Engineering department, were selected by a joint committee of Nissan Global Foundation and IIT Madras (IITM). In addition to a financial grant for two years, amounting to Rs  120,000, Suraj and Sripriya will also attend a short training programme at production plant and R&D centre in Japan and an internship at Renault Nissan Technology and Business Centre India (RNTBCI).
The scholarship has a rigorous selection process involving interview by IIT Professors and NGF officials to assess the technical and leadership abilities of the candidates. The two recipients of this prestigious scholarship were the chosen amongst more than 50 students.
Apart from the scholarship programme, Nissan is actively engaged in collaborative research projects with IIT Madras in advanced areas of automobile technology. ‘Nissan Support Programme’ supports R&D projects at IIT-M in the areas of engineering, science, management, humanities and social sciences.
Around five projects are chosen for funding every year based on proposals from young faculty of IIT-M. This further emphasises Nissan’s commitment in the field of education and research in India. Currently, there are more than ten projects being carried out under this scheme.
